Angular steel grit

Angular steel grit is a high-performance metallic abrasive designed for surface preparation and treatment in industrial settings. Its sharp-edged structure allows for vigorous and controlled mechanical action, ideal for quickly and effectively removing contaminants, oxidation, and processing residues.

Thanks to its high hardness and wear resistance, it ensures consistent productivity even in the most intense work cycles. The impact of the particles creates a well-defined surface profile, which is essential for optimal anchoring of paints, protective coatings, or subsequent treatments.

Available in a wide range of grain sizes and hardness levels, it can be selected based on the desired degree of roughness and the type of material to be treated. This makes it particularly suitable for applications in the metalworking, infrastructure, mechanical, and naval industries.

Another advantage is its long operational life: the grit can be recovered and reused multiple times in recirculating systems, reducing consumption and disposal costs. Its complete recyclability also helps make the blasting process more environmentally sustainable.

Types of angular steel grit

In the industrial sector, high-carbon angular steel grit is a highly valued abrasive for its effectiveness, durability, and consistent performance. The different types are mainly distinguished by their hardness, a characteristic that influences their behavior during surface treatments. The main categories that stand out are:

  • GP Features an irregular morphology with a rounded profile. The hardness is between 40 and 50 HRC (about 544-613 HV).
  • GL Characterized by beveled edges and a more defined geometry, it offers intermediate hardness between 54 and 61 HRC (about 580–720 HV). It represents a balanced solution between cutting ability and wear resistance.
  • GH Stands out for its sharp edges and more cutting profile, designed for high-intensity work. The hardness is equal to or greater than 60 HRC (about ≥ 700 HV), making it suitable for treatments that require greater incisiveness and more pronounced roughness.

For each type of angular grit, there are different grain sizes, depending on the processing to be carried out. The microstructure of the grit is the same for all types; in fact, it is tempered martensite, highly refined and homogeneous, obtained through a well-controlled production process that mixes iron and carbon atoms in the best possible way, achieving optimal homogeneity, hardness, and resistance.
