The stainless steel abrasive cylinder is a metallic abrasive obtained by cutting high-quality stainless steel wire. During the production process, the wire is cut into small segments of controlled length, creating particles with a cylindrical shape and extremely precise and uniform dimensions.
Subsequently, the material can be subjected to conditioning treatments or mechanical processes that allow the edges to be slightly rounded and improve the stability of the particles during use. This process makes it possible to obtain an abrasive with consistent characteristics and high resistance to deformation and wear.
Thanks to its compact structure and stainless steel composition, the abrasive cylinder guarantees reliable performance even in the most intensive work cycles. Furthermore, it does not cause ferrous contamination on treated surfaces, making it particularly suitable for processing stainless steels and non-ferrous metals.
The great uniformity of the particles allows for very regular results in surface treatment processes, maintaining consistent performance over time and a long operational life in recirculating shot blasting systems.
Types of stainless steel cylinder
Austenitic stainless steel contains chromium and nickel, has an austenitic microstructure, greater hardness, resilience and wear resistance, and is optimized for recycling and intensive cycles.
Ferritic stainless steel contains mainly chromium, has a ferritic microstructure, lower hardness and impact resistance, and is more brittle during use, suitable for general applications.
Advantages
Uniformity and shape precision: being cylindrical, each particle has constant dimensions, which guarantees controlled abrasive action and repeatable results.
Targeted and stable action: the cylinders strike the surface evenly, reducing the risk of deformation or excessively aggressive profiles, which is essential on precision parts.
Excellent for shot peening: improves the fatigue resistance of metal components thanks to the uniform and controlled impact of the particles.
High wear resistance: stainless steel cylinders maintain consistent performance even in prolonged cycles and can be reused in recirculating systems, reducing consumption and operating costs.
Absence of ferrous contamination: being stainless, it does not transfer ferrous material onto treated surfaces, making it suitable for stainless steels, light alloys, and sensitive applications such as food or pharmaceutical.
Long operational life and stability: the combination of cylindrical shape and heat-treated stainless steel guarantees a durable, efficient, and consistent abrasive over time.
