Predictive maintenance

Predictive maintenance is a maintenance strategy based on monitoring the operating conditions of systems and their components.
Through data analysis and the monitoring of specific operating parameters, it is possible to identify signs of deterioration or anomalies before a failure occurs.

The goal of predictive maintenance is to predict when a component might fail, allowing intervention to be planned at the most appropriate time and reducing the risk of unexpected system shutdowns.

This approach therefore allows intervention only when truly necessary, avoiding both unexpected failures and unnecessary maintenance operations.

Predictive maintenance is based on the analysis of various parameters that allow the assessment of the operating status of machines and their components.

Among the most common checks are:

  • vibration analysis of motors and rotating components

  • monitoring of operating temperatures

  • monitoring the electrical absorption of motors

  • checking the condition of bearings and rotating parts

  • monitoring the efficiency of suction and filtration systems

In shot blasting and sandblasting systems, these analyses can be applied, for example, to turbines, motors, abrasive transport systems, and fans.

Advantages of predictive maintenance

The use of predictive maintenance offers several advantages in the management of industrial plants:

  • reduction of unexpected failures

  • greater plant reliability

  • optimization of maintenance interventions

  • reduction of machine downtime

  • better use of components until the end of their useful life

Thanks to continuous monitoring of operating conditions, it is possible to schedule interventions at the most appropriate time, reducing the impact on production.

Disadvantages of predictive maintenance

Despite its numerous advantages, predictive maintenance also presents some limitations.

Among the main aspects to consider are:

  • need for monitoring tools and specific technologies

  • initial costs for the implementation of control systems

  • need for technical skills for the analysis of collected data

For this reason, predictive maintenance is often integrated with other maintenance strategies, such as preventive or corrective maintenance.
